Well today I am going to share my reading list for this year. I just received the last 2 books from Monergism to add to my list, so I can actually have the titles right here at the computer. The picture at the left contains some of the books I hope to read in 2011. I have a Kindle so some of the reading will be done on that wonderful device.
One of the excellent books that I began in 2010 but never finished(due to the fact that I keep reading certain chapters multiple times)is a book titled "The Intellectuals" by Paul Johnson. It is a book that I have in print and also on my Kindle. The book is 13 chapters of short but exquisitely written biographies of the men and women who formed the post modern world. He begins with Jean-Jacques Rousseau and covers just about every important figure who formed our modern world-including Carl Marx and Ernest Hemingway. I love this book-because I hate to read long biographies of basically evil men with evil ideas who have brought the world to its present state. Here you get all the information you need to know in short but brilliantly written biographies. It is the best secular book I have read in a long time. Paul Johnson also wrote a biography on Winston Churchill-and I hope to add that to my pile of books later this year.
My list of serious reading this year includes these titles:(when I thank someone for a book-it is because they showcased it on their blog and that is how I learned about it)

ReplyDeleteI'm also working away at Steve Lawson's Foundation Of Grace. Robert picked it up at Shepherd,s last year - he was so blessed to be able to ask him a church history question we've had.
Thanks for the great suggestions!
This is a great list, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou are more than welcome Diane and Toyin. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
ReplyDeleteYou have quite a list. The Intellectuals looks very interesting. I read The Shallows last year. It was very thought provoking and made me think more about thinking. I really loved Voices from the Past. I hope you'll be blessed in reading it.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, Victoria. I'm working on this right now and hope to post mine this week. I love reading others' lists. So glad you took the time to share. We're enjoying Voices from the Past since our Pastor gave it to us for Christmas. :)
