This is the topic of a talk that my Pastor-Nate Graham-gave on Wednesday evening at our Church (Berean Community Church). I took a few notes and think they are worth sharing here. Delaware is in the process of passing a Civil Union Law. Pastor Graham and 3 other Pastors had a meeting with one of our legislators who is pro Civil Unions. These Pastors pointed out from scripture why God never intended this as part of his plan for mankind. They shared from the scripture-in spite of the fact that they were strongly urged not to do so. As Pastor Graham stated-where do Christians find truth about God's plan except in the Bible? There is no other source for truth about God's will for his creation.
Civil Union's distort our understanding of God: Our God is Triune and within the Trinity God is relational. Three separate but equal persons make up the Godhead. The three distinct Person's of the Godhead are co-equal-but they have different roles. Within the Trinity-the Son and the Holy Spirit are in submission to the Father- 1Co 11:3
Marriage is an expression of the Godhead: After God had made Adam-he brought all the animals to Adam to be named. As Adam named all of the animals he saw that each one had a counterpart but he did not have one. So God put Adam to sleep and made Eve from Adam's own body. I am just going to quote the scripture here:
Gen 2:18-25
18 Then the Lord God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him." 19 So out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man.
23 Then the man said,"This at last is bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
because she was taken out of Man."
24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.
God made a woman for the man-the woman was made for the man-she completed him:
1 Cor 11:8-9
For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.

Marriage demonstrates the unity and submission in the Godhead:
The Son and the Holy Spirit willing and joyfully submit to the leadership of the Father. Jn 6:38 Jn 16:13
The wife should willingly and joyfully submit to the leadership of her husband. Eph. 5:22
I do not want to get into a discussion of a wife's submission here-this is a conversation about how wrong it is to tamper with God's plan for marriage. The scripture is so clear on God's purpose for marriage-and the male female relationship within marriage; one would have to be dishonest to deny it. You may reject the scripture-but you can't deny what it says about God's purpose in marriage.
My Pastor left us with these words: When any society behaves in such a way that historic norms are abandoned-social chaos results.
Civil Unions abandon the plan of God for marriage and abandon all historic norms. Please pray for Delaware not to do this evil thing!
