We had a mission's Conference at Church this past weekend. We had the privilege of hosting several of the missionaries that we support- there at the Church- in the flesh. That is such a wonderful opportunity-I have a much easier time praying for people that I actually know and have conversed with.
One of the places that we support as a Church is a crisis pregnancy center in the city of Dover-Delaware's Capital city. When I heard of the critical need for counselors for women in crisis-my heart was very moved. They have a very great need at the center because they only have 2 volunteer counselors who cannot cover the urgent demand for help. When women are in trouble with an unwanted pregnancy-and can't get someone to help right away-they many times end up at Planned Parenthood-and you know what that means-it almost always means an abortion!
One of the things that I like about this Pregnancy center is their desire to be Theologically sound. They have asked my Pastor to help them with that. I also like the fact that the Gospel is shared with every person who comes in for help. They supply many of the items a financially stressed woman would need.
After hearing the talk from Jeremy(I am pretty sure he is chairman of the board) and talking with my Pastor and my husband -I have filled out an application to volunteer with them as a counselor. As I talked this over with my husband-I reminded him that just one life saved-just one person hearing the Gospel is all the reward anyone could desire from such a labor. The Lord Jesus said that cup of cold water given in his name would not be forgotten.
I am able to do this at this point in my life because I am retired and it does not interfere with other duties. One of the absolute blessings for older women-is the ability to help in ways we just never had the time for when we were raising our families! Which-to me-is exactly what God desires.
Ladies, the world around us is a giant mission field-we do not have to go off to a foreign country to serve God:we can serve him by helping the broken -lost-and ruined people around us. Older women have the advantage of years of walking with God-that should have produced a heart of wisdom.
Matt 25:44-45
Then they also will answer, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?' Then he will answer them, saying, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.' ESV
The unborn certainly fit this category of persons made in the image of God. Most every one of you who come here Know this fact.
I would appreciate your prayers for this.

Our church also supports a local crisis pregnancy center, and my pastor is on the board. God bless you for volunteering as a counselor. Even if one person hears the gospel and repents, it is labor well spent.

ReplyDeleteOh Vicky - I can't even tell you how wonderful it is to hear that you will have this opportunity!! Our daughter worked as the receptionist at a CPC while her hubby was finishing college. It was supposed to be a Christian organization, and was sponsored by local churches but it did NOT have this kind of conviction regarding presenting Biblical truth and counseling to these poor women. This was a constant source of grief for my daughter whose desire was to give these women the whole Gospel. But her hands were tied because she was only the receptionist.
Praise God that He has given you this incredible opportunity!
God bless your work there!
Thank you both for your comments dear friends. They have asked Nate(my Pastor) to be on their board, Diane. He is very excited about me volunteering for this-even one day a week will help out. Like your daughter-my experience with one other place like this was not a good one. I am pretty fussy about truth-and who I am going to work with theologically-but we support this one-and I am very comfortable with where they are Biblically.
