Let's Talk About Love

I have not been updating my blog often enough-sometimes life prevents me from writing. One of the reasons is that I don't enjoy writing like I enjoy talking-but I intend to persevere-because writing is a discipline that trains the mind to think right.. Every Christan had better think right-and speak right-and write right- for the sake of the Gospel. Love for God and the Gospel-should cause us to think before we write anything in a blog post that may be seen by dozens(in my case)or thousands for some of you.

If  love of God and the Gospel does not motivate what we do in our daily lives-in the impersonal world of the internet-and in our REAL lives-it is worth nothing according to 1Cor.13:1-3

In pondering and meditating on God and his love-these truths are very clear:
All of the law is fulfilled by love:
Matt 22:36-40
Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?" And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the great and first commandment.  And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.  On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets."
ESV

Think about the Big Ten(Exodus 20:1-17)
The first four commandments have to do with loving God
The 5th Commandment has to do with loving and honoring parents
The final 5 commandments have to do with loving everyone else in your life.

God has set the ultimate example of how we are to love one another- Eph. 5:1-2
Jesus said it this way- John 15:12-13
And he promised us that we would be KNOWN as his followers like this-John 13:34-35

God commands us to love-it sounds so easy. The truth is if you are anything like me-love is not easy-and it takes God's sanctifying grace to produce it in my life-especially for difficult people.

It takes His constant pruning to keep me loving Him in a way that brings Him glory. It seems that for me-love is the hardest thing God could require-and I bless His name that He perfects and will perfect us in love.

  1. Love isn't easy for me either, Vicki. Maybe it's because true, biblical love is the opposite of what I am in myself.

  2. Vicki,
Great thoughts, and I appreciate the reminder about writing and the discipline that it is to put right thoughts on paper. God shows me daily that but for His grace I cannot love as He's called me to. Yes, I'm being constantly pruned!

  3. This is so true Vicky. Even if the truth divides, it should still be brought forth in love.
