Have you women ever been asked if you are a Titus 2 woman? I have-times without number. I have read many books and taught many Bible studies on how to be Titus 2 woman. The title of my post today comes from a desire I have in my heart for some man to write a book with that title and to write some bible study materials on how to be that kind of man.
My thoughts on this subject took root from a few books I have recently read on the subject of marriage and the role of women. I must say that every book I have recently read on marriage and women has been very heavy handed on the role of the wife's submission and the woman's call to be a Titus 2 lady-and extremely light handed(if it is touched on at all) on the husband's duty to love his wife as Christ loved the Church. Here is that wonderful and much neglected(IMO) passage.
Eph 5:25-33
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. "Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. ESV
Husbands if you are loving your wife as Christ loved the Church-your wife will likely follow you to the ends of the earth, strive to meet your needs and submit to your headship with joy. Please remember that she is an heir with you of the grace of life. 1Peter 3:7 Too much emphasis on the role of the wife in marriage-with little instruction given to the husband's role is wrong and will lead to abuse-as I have seen in the book by Debi Pearl.
So here is my question to you men "Are you an Ephesians 5 man?" That is your high and holy calling
from God to your wife.

Vickie, You make me laugh! We are truly kindred spirits. I'm always saying that some man needs to write a book called "The Titus 2 Man". Afterall, there's just as much written to the men in that chapter.
ReplyDeleteI also wonder why so much attention is always given to Titus 2 to the neglect of so many other passages about being a godly woman. I like 1 Tim 5:4-6 looking at the godly widow. There's a list for ya.
Hope you're doing well my friend.
Much love!
Diane-those are excellent passages and excellent points!
ReplyDeleteWe are kindred spirits indeed my friend-and I am so grateful to God that I have free long distance and can bounce my musings and ponderings and problems off you when I need to.
Thanks for your friendship and support and I pray that you and Robert have a wonderful Christmas-hugs to you.
